Fashion illustrators sometimes feel like a dime a dozen, however, when a unique talent comes about, it is so refreshing.

Christian David Moore is a self taught, London based illustrator (SO much great illustration coming out of the UK these days....) who loves Tom Ford, Miles Davis and has a wicked, yet very delicate hand.

Never underestimate the impact of watercolor or goauche!

Retro: The Origin

This video has more hair flips than a Pantene commercial, but my GOODNESS they were one of the most engaging bands during the 90's. Truly, they were... just a year or two before the entire grunge movement steamrollered everything in rock media...They lost Daniel and gained a new member whose name eludes me, and went sort of hippy dippy for the second album, which turned out to be a pretty solid collection of work...I loved Bend.

Gah, my silly artist's eye has to comment: It didn't hurt that the entire band was very photogenic. You have to love the boys from the West in the 90's. Topper Rimel's hair flips are The Best. I wonder what they are up to now?

A leetle, leetle formulaic.. but not so much so that we miss the beauty of this song... This is still easily the most gorgeous version of "Forever Young" out there now.

Comment: On Hipsters

The funniest thing about a hipster, is defining who IS a hipster. I don't think anyone really knows. Urban Dictionary defines it as "The blend of every failed fad since the early 1900s." THe closer that you get to an epicenter of hipsters (NYC, Austin, Portland, San Francisco), the finer the definition seems to become. I, personally think the world is a better place with hipsters, regardless of how annoying they may be. But then again, I don't really live amongst them. I do like to watch them, and I find the culture around them funny.

There has always been a part of me that admired the simplicity of line drawings. I can't remember how I stumbled upon Rinee Shah's portfolio, but I am glad that I did.

She is not an animator in the sense of someone who illustrates movement convincingly-- it is more in the tone and atmosphere that is created: unusual, sparse, emotional,and powerful.

THough this link leads to her commercial work, you can see her aesthetic clearly.. a very strong sense of style and strong presence. I'll be keeping my eyes on her.

My father and I were strolling through Central Park, when we heard them playing. My father being a musician, naturally took off towards the source of the song. After we climbed a rock, here were two lads ( I never use this word, but when you see them, you'll see how it fits) strumming their guitars, singing their hearts out.

Dad requested "Michelle" by the Beatles, they enthusiastically complied and I was smitten and filled with joy. That's what they do -- radiate joy. I was joy-smitten. I hope you are joy-smitten with them too!

The first time I ever saw Jason Hackenwerth's "Dream of the Fisherman's Wife" in SoHo... I forgot the store it was in, but I have not been able to forget the huge, bright balloon sculptures.



These are not the pics of the actual show, I'm sad to say. Take my word though, the energy and color of it left me awestruck.
